Podiatry and Diabetes Care: Working together to manage diabetes

Abstract:This lecture will discuss common foot problems found in the diabetic patient. Podiatry in diabetes care delivers a critical health service that helps to underwrite health and personal independence, while reducing isolation and depression. This webinar will educate the inter professional collaboration team (PPOD+A and medical diabetes care professionals), regarding foot care, ensuring the person with diabetes receives best possible foot/podiatric care and quality of life. The attendees will understand basic foot issues so that patients can be appropriately questioned and referred.
Bio: Dr. Dennis R Frisch, DPM graduated from the Dr. William M. Scholl College of Podiatric Medicine in 1982. He completed surgical residency at the Franklin Boulevard Community Hospital in Chicago, Illinois. Then in 1983, Dr. Frisch went into private practice in his hometown of Boca Raton, Florida where he continues to provide quality podiatric care. Dr. Frisch began serving on the American Podiatric Medical Association (APMA) Board of Trustees in 2007. He currently serves as APMA President
After completing this activity, the participant should be better able to:
1.) Identify and appropriately refer common podiatry problems that may be encountered in their own patient population.
2.) Understand the proper examination and evaluation to help screen diabetic patients.
3.) Gain a greater understanding of team health care to the betterment of overall health of diabetic patients.
This activity is intended for physicians, nurses, dietitians, pharmacists, podiatrists, optometrists, dentists and audiologists engaged in the care of patients with diabetes.
